Should I Go To A Hospital After a Car Accident?

The quick answer is that it depends on how severe the car accident was and if you are in pain or not.

If you are in pain and not sure how serious it could be, going to the doctor or a hospital is a good idea. Although at the moment it might be a small pain, this small pain can snowball into chronic pain that can bother you for a long time.

However, if your accident was minor like a fender bender or a light rear-end accident, then it may not be necessary to go to the hospital. Instead, just checking your body one more time and checking for injuries is the best bet instead of going to the hospital. Forcing and creating an injury is something that is unnecessary and outright wrong.

What Could I Be Hospitalized For?

After a car accident, the possibilities for injury are quite big. Two 3,000 lbs. Vehicles crash into each other at something like 30 miles per hour. If you’re lucky you may be one of the lucky people that get away from an accident injury free. In most cases though, there is a personal injury that occurs after a car accident.

The most common injuries during a car accident are neck pain, back pain, and chest pain.

Why do these injuries happen?

When two cars crash, the driver (you or the other driver) gets thrown because of the sudden stop. This causes something called whiplash. Whiplash is when your body gets thrown and your neck (being the body part that connects your head to your body) can’t handle the force and thus your head is thrown back while your body goes forward. This sudden stretching of the neck and spine can really mess up your neck muscles and back muscles and in turn cause neck pain and back pain.

Although sometimes neck pain and back pain can be solved with some rest, if it’s very serious it can go as far as needing injections and therapy. There are even cases where surgery may be needed to solve the problem. Because the spine is such an important part of the body, but also the most affected and vulnerable body part during an accident, it is important to take care of it when it is in pain.

But this isn’t the only pain and suffering you may go through after an accident. These are some of the things you could be hospitalized for, but also some losses you may go through:

  • Cuts and bruises
  • Fractured ribs
  • Internal organ damage
  • Traumatic brain damage or brain damage
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Lost wages because of inability to work
  • Possibly losing your job because of inability to work after accident
  • Wrongful death of you or loved one

Although it seems long, this is only a short list of possible personal injuries that could occur to you after a car accident.
